Bengaluru: Holi is the festival of colours which is celebrated with great zeal across India but this time the festival will not have that spark in Bengaluru amid the ongoing water crisis which the city has been dealing with for several weeks. In view of the festival, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has issued an advisory for the residents to not to use Cauvery and borewell water for pool parties and rain dances to celebrate Holi. “Holi is a festival of celebrating Hindu culture. There’s no issue with celebrating it at home and observing rituals. However, organizing entertainment like rain dances and pool parties for commercial purposes is not advisable at this time. Using Cauvery water and borewell water is prohibited in the public interest,” the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) said. The board clarified that no other restrictions have been imposed on the people on the use of water during the festival.

The city’s water board informed that the Chinnaswamy Stadium will get more than 75,000 litres of treated water every day. This will continue during the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket matches in Bengaluru.

The BWSSB took the decision due to the insufficient rain and falling groundwater levels, urging residents to cooperate with it.
India’s tech city is grappling with a severe water shortage, falling short by about 500 million liters daily. The residents, adapting to this tough situation, are resorting to working from home, dining with disposable dishes, and making use of public washrooms at malls.

The stadium will receive treated water from the Cubbon Park wastewater treatment plant for the IPL matches. According to he board decisions being taken to prevent groundwater and Cauvery water misuse and to encourage optimal use of treated water.
